Current frequency usage in FT8-DXpedition mode

Several DXpeditions are currently active in FT8 DXpeditions mode. While
in the past Fox-Hound operation used frequencies that were in direct
proximity to the respective standard frequencies, frequency usage is
increasingly diversifying.

HR5/F2JD from Honduras on 14080 kHz and 7P8LB from Lesotho on 14078 kHz
could be observed simultaneously, 5V7EI from Togo was active on 3575
(!), 10133 and 14083 kHz. In the 40m band 7P8LB used 7060 kHz, 5X3E from
Uganda 7056 kHz, and in the 30m band 7P8LB used 10142 kHz. Owners of a
transceiver or SDR receiver that allows band observation by means of a
spectrogram (waterfall display) should keep this in mind; the
characteristic 15-s intervals make it easy to reliably identify this
type of transmission even on small displays.

The Hound mode is implemented in the programs WSJT-X and JTDX; it is
recommended to study the FT8 DXpedition Mode User Guide before using
this function for the first time.

 Tom and all,
An observation from a 4U1ITU operator who operated as “fox”: In the current WSJT-X version 2.0.1 there is no (at least I was unable to find one) list with frequencies for FT8 foxes. What is available is the operating frequencies announced by DXpeditions. The fox frequency has to be at least 4 kHz away from the normal FT8 frequencies to avoid an "out-of-band” message. “Out-of-band” is misleading as the frequencies are inside the amateur bands. Especially on 160m I was unable to follow the Region1 bandplan. The Fox frequencies that I used were 1844 and/or 1836 (in normal mode 1840) 3567 (in normal mode 3573) 7078 (in normal mode 7074) 10131 (in normal mode 10136) 14090 (in normal mode 14074) 18095 (in normal mode 18100) 21091 (in normal mode 21074) 24911 (in normal mode 24915)
Maybe the above is worth a short discussion in Vienna.
 73, Hans PB2T W uzupełnieniu poprzedniej informacji.

Drogi Marku SP3AMO

OTHR "Contayner 2.0" (RUS): 10 do 12 stacji radaru zaplanował

Jak informuje Michaił Kodarenok, wojskowy korespondent w RT.com,
stacje radaru OTH  typu „Kontener” będą rozmieszczone w niedalekiej
przyszłości w Rosji na Dalekim Wschodzie, Centralnej Syberii i w obwodzie Kaliningradzkim w strefie Morza Bałtyckiego. Dowództwo Armii Rosyjskiej wierzy, że liczba 10 do 12 stacji radarowych typu OTH Kontener będzie dostateczna, by pokryć całą przestrzeń powietrzną przed granicami Rosji. Radar Kontener (Rosyjski system: 29Б6 «Контейнер») jest faktycznym następcą  rosyjskiego radaru poza horyzontalnego, systemu dalekiego śledzenia przestrzeni do wykrywania pocisków balistycznych.

Systemy komputerowe i śledzące znacząco zostały ulepszone.

Ponadto, w systemie śledzenia jest system OTH typ (Podsolnukh słonecznik), przybrzeżny radar, radar fali przyziemnej zdolny do wykrywania morskich celów do 300, km i celów powietrznych  do 450, km o ile lecą ponad wodą.

OTHR "Contayner 2.0" (RUS): 10 to 12 radar stations planned

According to Mikhail Khodarenok, military correspondent at RT.com, a
series of Contayner-type OTH radar stations will be deployed in the near
future in the Russian Far East, Central Siberia and Kaliningrad in the
Baltic Sea region. The Russian military believes that 10 to 12
Contayner-type OTH radar stations will be sufficient to cover the entire
airspace outside Russia's borders. The Contayner radar (Russian: 29Б6
«Контейнер») is the actual generation of Russian over-the-horizon radar,
providing long distance airspace monitoring and ballistic missile
detection. It uses HF frequencies and has been often reported as
intruder in the exclusive amateur radio bands on shortwave by the IARU
Monitoring System (IARUMS). The first radar, near Kovylkino, Mordovia,
Russia, became operational in December 2013.

By 2018, the Contayner system had been significantly improved. At the
beginning of December last year, the Ministry of Defence announced that
the modernised OTH radar was now in trial operation in the Mordovia
region of Russia. In six months it should be fully operational and go
 into regular operation.

Essentially, the same location was used for the deployment of a new OTH
radar station, which, however, is far superior to the old Contayner
(29B6). The new station has a larger coverage area. It is able to detect
aerodynamic targets in a 240-degree arc compared to 180 degrees for the
old system. Computer systems and tracking stability have been
 significantly improved.

The new Contayner radar should be able to simultaneously detect and
track over 5000 air targets. It could also track a small aircraft
directly on the runway or the takeoff and warhead of short-range or
medium-range ballistic missiles with radar cross sections smaller than
 their intercontinental cousins.

Russia's eastern OTH monitoring centre is to be built in the next two
years. A location for the Contayner radar has already been selected in
the city of Zeya in the Amur region. The military is already producing
the necessary equipment. This new Contayner radar station could monitor
the Pacific region from Kamchatka to New Zealand and China.

The OTH coverage will complement the traditional Voronezh type improved
radar stations, which will serve as part of the Russian ICBM early
warning system. In addition, there is the Podsolnukh (sunflower) type
OTH coastal radar, a surface wave radar capable of detecting maritime
targets up to 300 km and air targets up to 450 km away as long as they
 fly over the water.
